Flights
Flights are available from most regional airports as well as all the London airports, and include scheduled
(BA and TAP Air Portugal), charter and 'no frills'. Please specify if you have a preference. Faro airport, a
direct flight from the UK, is 20 minutes drive from Vale do Lobo, (so within easy distance). It is a
relatively small airport, so you can usually expect to disembark and be out of the airport within half an
hour.
Car Hire
The smallest, and cheapest, vehicles are 3 door Corsas, or similar. The largest is a 9 seater minibus. This
is 3 x the price of a small car and financially you are better off with a small car and a couple of extra
taxis from the airport. There is no real need for a car, other than for quick trips to the supermarket or
golf, but it is easier to have at least one for the party. Most groups have one for each adult, just to
enable periodic escape from kids!
Insurance
Is not included, although it can be arranged. Most schools have their own arrangements either already in
place or available through the School Journey Association which charges about £5 per person per week. We
will need a copy of your insurance schedule if you arrange the cover yourselves.
Golf
Vale do Lobo has two European tour standard courses, and is has recently been the venue for the Portugese
Open. It is possible to get discounted rates for golfers, but it is still around £70 per round, £45 for
under 16s. There are a number of other (more reasonable) courses within 30 minutes drive. Please let me
know if you would like further details and be aware that all reserve the right to request handicap
certificates. There is a driving range and chipping area (at Barrington's) for which there is a charge, and
lessons are also available.
Free Staff Places
Are available on a ratio of 1 for every 5 pupils. Please note that all houses/villas must have one adult in
them.
Payment
- A non-refundable deposit of £250 per person will be required. The balance will be required 3 months before departure.
- Prices are not guaranteed until such time as the flights are booked, once the deposit has been received.
- It is sometimes possible to change names on flights, but not always. Airlines also charge an administration fee IF they allow changes.
- If flight prices have risen significantly between the time of the initial quotation and receipt of the deposit, you will be kept fully informed, and given the option of withdrawing with a full refund. If you cancel within 3 months of the departure date you are not entitled to any refund, although we will do our best with the various suppliers concerned.
